“Preserve calm and keep on”. It is a line delivered with barely a drip of irony by Timothy Simons’ Dr. Collins within the new trailer for Olivia Wilde’s thriller Do not Fear Darling, by which Florence Pugh’s excellent life slowly begins to really feel extra like a nightmare. Test it out…
Alice (Pugh) and Jack (Harry Kinds) are fortunate to be dwelling within the idealized group of Victory, the experimental firm city housing the lads who work for the top-secret Victory Undertaking and their households. The Fifties societal optimism espoused by their CEO, Frank (Chris Pine) – equal components company visionary and motivational life coach – anchors each facet of day by day life within the tight-knit desert utopia.
Whereas the husbands spend on daily basis contained in the Victory Undertaking Headquarters, engaged on the “growth of progressive supplies,” their wives, together with Frank’s elegant companion, Shelley (Gemma Chan), get to spend their time having fun with the wonder, luxurious and debauchery of their group. Life is ideal, with each resident’s wants met by the corporate. All they ask in return is discretion and unquestioning dedication to the Victory trigger.
However when cracks of their idyllic life start to seem, exposing flashes of one thing rather more sinister lurking beneath the engaging façade, Alice can’t assist questioning precisely what they’re doing in Victory, and why. Simply how a lot is Alice keen to lose to show what’s actually happening on this paradise?
